Greetings, young Acolytes. Your trials are officially over, and you will do well
to learn from them. Remember well the virtues of faith, suspicion, and intuition
that saw you through them. Through them you will purge the heretic, witch, and
traitor, and perhaps someday they will see you to much greater ends.
Your true work begins now, as an Acolyte of the Inquisition.
You will have noticed a time and location scribed onto the attached parchment.
This is when and where you will meet your peers, who you will work with for the
forseeable future. Do not be late, and do not mistake the locale; you will be moved
again and boarding a transport within the hour.
Your first assignment shall be an investigation on Nethen IV.
I have received a report from an agent on Nethen IV of a series of unusual events.
Near 3 months ago, a large mining vehicle, traversing into the sandstorms with a
crew of experienced miners, failed to return at the scheduled time. It failed to
ever return, in fact. It is completely unknown as to its fate, and its loss has
a large impact on the planet's production of annual tithe.
Though this would normally be of no major concern, it is joined with another
unexpected complication. Communications with one smaller, distant island named
Gart Station were lost around the same time the vehicle disappeared. Efforts to
reach Gart Station via aircraft have been met only with intense local sandstorms,
much larger and more violent than ever recorded before. Gart Station housed
another three such mining vehicles, and its contributions to the planets tithe
are crucially important.
As such, your primary objective once on sight is to re-estbalish contact with
Gart Station. Its contribution is crucial to meeting the Imperial tithes,
and this planet's tithe is furtherly important to several Forge Worlds in
this sector and elsewhere.
Secondarily, locate and recover the missing mining vehicle, the 'Drillhead'. Each
of these massive vehicles is a monumental investment, and it is likely that its
ancient technology could not be easily replaced. The lives of the crew are also
valuable, as only the most experienced engineers can crew these sacred vehicles.
Although this could turn out to only be unusual weather and odd happenings, I warn
you that it is far more likely to be something more sinister. The works of the
witch and heretic are many, and it is our task to discover their hidden heresies.
Should you encounter the work of heretics on Nethen, you will fufill your duty
to purge and cleanse.
You will land at the planet's capital, Hender's Palace, a large city and mining
complex. Once there, I trust you will be able to uphold your duties and complete
your objectives. I will be watching.
>>Terrain Analysis
Nethen IV is comprised of several large islands, each separated from each other by
a completely deprived area of depressed desert. In the past, these deserts were
vast oceans, but the planet's orbit then shifted closer to the system star,
causing massive heat waves. The surface is hospitable, and cannot be traversed
safely without vehicles or proper protection. In the depressed deserts, travel
is almost impossible due to constant sand storms. Only heavily armored mining
vehicles travel into the sand storms to extract precious metals from the
desert floor. 90% of the planet's tithe is composed of mineral exports.
>>Hender's Palace
In long past times, Hender's Palace was a large city that acted as the center
of trade and commerce for the people of Nethen IV's largest island. The literal
Palace within the city is a monumentally important cathedral that has survived til
today. As with all other surviving cities, Hender's Palace is protected from the
harsh weather by a massive energy field, driven by ancient technology that could
possibly never be replaced. The Imperial Governer, Jeng Hender, resides in the
upper spires of the palace.
